New Diamond Reign Supreme, Stuns Police Again to Lift KNP Volleyball Crown

Tip Top New Diamond Youth Sports Club has confirmed its place as the top team in Nepali women's volleyball by winning the 9th KNP Nerolac National Women's Volleyball Tournament.

In an exciting final at the National Sports Council Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, New Diamond beat defending champions Nepal Police Club 3-1. This is New Diamond's second title in the tournament and marks a shift in domestic volleyball, as it was their third win over Police in one week.

After beating Police in the NVA Championship final a week earlier, New Diamond entered the match confident. They remained unbeaten and won the trophy, just as they did in the NVA tournament.

A Game of Momentum and Drama

New Diamond started strong, quickly taking a 4-1 lead. Police fought back and tied the score at 7-7. The set stayed close until 15-15. Then, Sumitra Regmi's serving gave New Diamond three points in a row, putting them ahead 18-14.

Police managed to tie the score at 22-22, but New Diamond’s top spiker Pratibha Mali made a big impact. She scored with a spike and then a block, bringing her team to set point. A net touch by Police gave New Diamond the first set, 25-23. The second set was close, with neither side able to build a significant gap until 18-18. From there, New Diamond found another gear. Despite Police's protest over the 23rd point, New Diamond kept their composure. Leading 24-18, Mali delivered an ace to close out the set 25-18, establishing a 2-0 lead.

The Police Resurgence and the Diamond Comeback

Nepal Police Club fought back in the third set to avoid losing in straight sets. They took control early, leading 14-7, and New Diamond could not catch up. Police won the set 25-15, making the score 2-1.

The fourth set looked like it would go to a tie-breaker. Police played well and led 13-6, a gap that often decides a set. But New Diamond made a strong comeback.

Down 17-18, Salina Budha Magar’s serving helped New Diamond tie the score. They moved ahead 21-18, but Police saved match points and took a 25-24 lead. In a tense finish, New Diamond stayed calm and won 27-25. The last point was controversial, as Police strongly disagreed with a net-touch call, but the decision stood and New Diamond became champions. The Armed Police Force (APF) Club secured third place by sweeping Tribhuvan Army Club 3-0.

After losing to Army in straight sets just the day before, APF got their revenge with a clear 25-13, 25-23, 25-18 win.

Tournament History and Rewards

This victory marks a significant achievement for New Diamond in a tournament historically dominated by APF, who won the first six editions. New Diamond has now won the 7th and 9th editions, and Police won the 8th. The tournament has been held every year since 2072 BS. Third-placed APF and fourth-placed Army received NPR 125,000 and NPR 62,500, respectively.

The tournament MVP got NPR 50,000, and the best players in each position received NPR 25,000 each. The Player of the Match in each game received NPR 15,000.

The Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Trust organized the event, with main sponsorship from KNP Nerolac and support from the National Sports Council, Bagmati Province Sports Council, and several corporate partners.
