FC Chitwan dropped points for the first time in the ongoing Nepal Super League after a dramatic injury-time equalizer from FC Jhapa secured a 1-1 draw at Dasharath Stadium on Sunday.
Toric Zebrin, Chitwan's midfield maestro, continued his fine form by opening the scoring in the first half, putting the league leaders in front and in control. But Chitwan's hopes of a third straight win were dashed in the dying moments when Jhapa earned a penalty in stoppage time.
Alhaji Gero stepped up and calmly slotted home from the spot, netting Jhapa's first campaign goal and snatching a valuable point.
The result extends Jhapa's unbeaten run to three matches, although all have ended in draws. They were previously held goalless by Butwal Lumbini in the opener and shared points again in a stalemate against Kathmandu Rangers.
Chitwan, who had been flying high after back-to-back wins over Pokhara Thunders (2-0) and Butwal Lumbini (1-0), will feel the sting of two points dropped, having been seconds away from a perfect start to the season.
Next Up The action continues Monday evening as Kathmandu Rangers face off against Butwal Lumbini FC at 6 PM under the lights at Dasharath Stadium.
