Kathmandu — The defending champions, Lalitpur City FC, have punched their ticket to the Nepal Super League playoffs with a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Butwal Lumbini FC on Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium.
Led by captain Anant Tamang, Lalitpur showed why they remain one of the league's most formidable sides. Tamang opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, rising unmarked to nod home a pinpoint corner from Manikumar Lama and put his side ahead.
With just two minutes remaining in regulation time, Santosh Khatri sealed the deal.
The midfielder latched onto a perfectly weighted through-ball from Emo Ezekiel and fired home from outside the area, ensuring a comfortable win for the defending champs.
The result takes Lalitpur to the top of the standings with 11 points from five matches, firmly securing their playoff berth. Meanwhile, it's the end for Butwal Lumbini FC, who remain winless and rooted to the bottom with just one point from the same number of games.
