Europa League: AC Milan Stunned by Ferencvaros, Bournemouth Stays Perfect

AC Milan's European campaign went from bad to worse on Thursday night as Hungarian champions Ferencvaros pulled away at San Siro for a shock 2-0 win.

The defeat sees Milan's fourth straight Europa League outing ending in defeat, them now in 28th place with just three points. The game was effectively over in the second half when Milan's goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani lost the ball with a rather poor pass seven minutes into the half. Lenny Joseph was on hand to capitalise immediately and slot it home. He then added a second in the 14th minute of the half to put the visitors in complete control.

Ferencváros had substitute Bamidele Yusuf sent off in the 77th minute, but the Italian side didn't take advantage of that against 10 men.

'I'm not giving up on this competition,' Amorim insisted afterwards. 'As long as we're not mathematically out of it we're going to keep fighting in this competition just as we do in the others.'

The win sees Ferencvaros to 12 points, level with group leaders Benfica (who kept their top spot on goal difference after beating Lech Poznan 3-1) and a very determined Bournemouth.

Bournemouth kept their perfect record with a 3-1 win over Sparta Prague in Prague. Sparta took the lead early on through Ebrima Singhateh, but the game was completely turned on its head when Tobias Guddal was sent off. Tyler Adams equalised shortly after the restart and then it was Evanilson and Rayan in succession to put Bournemouth in complete control. It's their fourth win on the trot.

In the Netherlands Juventus did all the work to secure a 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar. The first goal came in the 19th minute via family connections as Teun Koopmeiners found the net with a first time strike against a Dutch side captained by his brother Peer. Randal Kolo Muani set up the first goal after a lovely run down the left, then added the second just eight minutes before the interval to take advantage of a high press turnover. Mexx Meerdink pulled one back late on, but Juventus held on to finish 10 points in fifth along with Union Saint-Gilloise and Olympiacos.

Elsewhere Amine Gouiri was the man of the moment for Marseille, scoring to give the visitors a 1-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen. He collected the ball just past the halfway line in the 77th minute, broke free from several challenges as he charged forward and fired home with his right foot to give Marseille their first win of the season.

At Selhurst Park Crystal Palace showed the required resilience to grab a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim. Prass got the opening goal for the visitors and it looked as if the game was going to be out of reach when Adam Wharton was shown a red card in the 77th minute. Palace were then in a difficult position with a man fewer but Kamada stepped up in the closing moments to slot home a dramatic equaliser to take all three points.
