Arsenal Tie Man City at Top; Villa and Spurs Claim Big Wins

Arsenal took full advantage of Man City's first slip of the season on Saturday, beating Everton 2-0 at a wet, miserable Emirates Stadium to level on points with the Citizens at the top of the table.

City's unbeaten run stopped earlier in the day at Villa Park with a 2-1 win for Aston Villa. Jackson scored twice for Unai Emery's side; City’s Haaland got the visitors' temporary equaliser. Arsenal then took advantage to level the scoreline, with both sides on 21 points after eight games, and the title race is now firmly in play.

Mikel Arteta's side controlled from the outset in the wet. Odegaard's corner in the 7th minute was a bit of a mess in the box. Pickford remained firm from the first whistle, but Everton couldn't clear it. Konsa reacted first, launching the ball over the line from a yard out to score his first goal for the club. The goal ended a 13-game drought without a set-piece goal in all competitions.

Arsenal completed the win in the 68th minute with two very special moments. Ben White (his 200th appearance for the club) delivered a cross to the far post, and Gabriel (his 200th Premier League appearance) headed home to make his milestone in ninth place after the defeat. At Villa Park, Villa secured their first home league win of the season and their third straight win over City. Jackson got the Villa goal in the 6th minute, taking advantage of a dreadful touch by Marc Guehi. McGinn then pounced on that error to set up Jackson, who slotted it home in the bottom corner.

City responded immediately after the restart. Iliman Ndiaye clipped a cross into the box from a free kick, and Haaland headed it past the keeper. Villa regained the lead on the hour when Ibrahim Mbaye broke down the right and played the ball back to Jackson, whose shot went under the diving gloves of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Villa are now up to 6th with 11 points in the table; City remain top on goal difference.

Across London, Spurs got a 2-0 win over Chelsea, their second league win at Stamford Bridge in 36 years. The first goal came in the 77th minute when Chelsea keeper Mike Penders, in his first league start, punched a corner into his own net. Chelsea were reduced to 10 men three minutes later when Cole Palmer picked up his second yellow for a late challenge on Conor Gallagher. Mathys Tel scored Spurs' second goal in the 87th minute. He started the move deep in his own half, carried the ball down the left flank, beat two defenders and drove a low strike into the bottom corner from outside the box. The win saw Spurs move up to 12th.

In the other game of the day, Fulham picked up a 1-0 win at Coventry City. Oscar Bobb put the game beyond doubt in the 80th minute, driving into the box and curling a shot into the far corner as Fulham were about to bring on a substitute for him. Fulham now sit in 13th place, Coventry 19th.
