Birtamod, Jhapa – Kankai Municipality, one of the tournament favourites, has booked its place in the semi-finals of the inaugural Inter-Municipal Women's Football Tournament with a dominant 4-0 victory over host team Birtamod Municipality.
In today's first quarter-final match, Kankai took an early lead through Swastika BK, who found the net in the 5th minute. The advantage was doubled in the 20th minute when Samiksha Magar struck a clinical goal. Less than a minute later, Purnima Rai extended the lead to 3-0, dealing a significant blow to Birtamod's hopes.
Purnima Rai sealed the emphatic win with her second goal in the 43rd minute, completing a stellar individual performance that earned her the Player of the Match award.
The tournament action continues tomorrow, with Arjundhara Municipality set to face Jhapa Municipality in the second quarter-final encounter. The ultimate champion of the competition, to be decided in the grand final on Falgun 5, will lift an impressive trophy and receive a cash prize of Rs 300,000, while the runner-up will take home Rs 150,000.
