Top Domestic Clubs to Clash as 9th Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Volleyball Championship Set for January

KATHMANDU – The domestic volleyball calendar is set for a high-voltage start this season, with the Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation announcing the dates for the highly anticipated ninth edition of their flagship tournament.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, organizers confirmed that the championship will run from Poush 23 to 26 at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwor.

Elite Lineup and Format The tournament will feature a compact but elite roster of five teams, ensuring a week of intense competition. Defending champions Nepal Police Club return to protect their title against fierce rivals, including the other two departmental giants: the Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Tribhuvan Army Club. Challenging the departmental dominance will be the fan-favorites New Diamond Youth Sports Club and Everest Volleyball Club.

According to the organizers, the tournament will be conducted with technical support from the Nepal Volleyball Association. The five participating teams will be divided into two groups, competing in a league-cum-knockout format to determine the finalists.

Lucrative Prize Purse: The foundation has announced a significant financial incentive for the teams, with a total prize purse of NRs 1.3 million.

Champions: NRs 500,000

Runners-up: NRs 250,000

Third Place: NRs 125,000

Individual excellence will also be heavily rewarded. The tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) will take home NRs 50,000, along with other attractive gift hampers. Furthermore, the best player in each specific position/category will earn NRs 25,000, while the Player of the Match for every game will receive NRs 15,000.

Honoring Legacy The event serves not just as a competition, but as a tribute. With an estimated operating budget of NRs 4 million, the foundation is keen on honoring those who have served the sport. During the opening ceremony, one distinguished national player will be honored with the 'Sher Bahadur Khadka Special Award,' which includes a cash prize of NRs 50,000.
