KATHMANDU – The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) concluded its 21st General Assembly on Monday, setting the stage for a critical year in Nepali sports, with four major international multi-sport events in 2026.
Presided over by NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, the assembly reviewed past performance, approved fiscal strategies, and solidified the roadmap for upcoming global competitions.
The 2026 International Roadmap
During the session, Executive Secretary Sujan Lal Shrestha outlined the demanding international calendar for Nepali athletes in 2026. The committee’s primary focus will be the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Additionally, the assembly confirmed preparation plans for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Saudi Arabia, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, and the Asian Beach Games in China.
Beyond these major tournaments, the NOC approved a schedule of domestic and developmental activities, including the Olympic Solidarity Course, the Fun Run, the Lumbini Peace Marathon, the Sports Congress, and a nationwide Talent Hunt. The committee also confirmed the continuation of International Olympic Day celebrations and the NOC Awards.
Governance and Financial Approvals
The assembly approved several key administrative reports. General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha presented the progress report on international participation and programs for 2025.
On the financial front, Internal Auditor Rabin Bhusal presented the economic details for fiscal year 2081/82. In the absence of Treasurer Tashi Ghale, Chief Accountant Rajan Shrestha presented the estimated 2026 annual budget, which was approved by the floor.

New Integrity Unit and Resolutions
In a move toward sports integrity, the assembly proposed forming a "Prevention of Manipulation of Sports" (PMC) unit. This body will be coordinated by Kiran Bajracharya, a former athlete and Additional Inspector General (AIG) of the Nepal Police, signaling a stricter stance on fair play and ethics.
The assembly also passed a resolution requesting the formal transfer of the NOC office building in Satdobato to the committee's ownership.
Furthermore, the delegates paid tribute to the martyrs of the recent "Gen Z" movement and officially welcomed the National Sports Council's decision regarding participation in the Asian Games.
A Call for Unity
Representatives from 23 different sports associations attended the event.
During the opening session, messages of goodwill were delivered by Deepak Thapa, Vice President of the National and International Players Association (NNIPA); Niranjan Adhikari, President of the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF); and Deepak Neupane, President of the Baseball and Softball Association.
In his closing remarks, President Jeevan Ram Shrestha emphasized the need for unity within the sporting fraternity.
"The NOC is prepared to move forward by collaborating with all stakeholders," Shrestha stated. "Our institution remains perpetually dedicated to the development of Nepali sports and the welfare of our athletes."
