KATHMANDU — Ten educational consultancy teams will clash in the capital this Sunday as the inaugural Japanese Education Group Futsal Tournament begins, with a NPR 100,000 winner's purse on the line.
The single-day competition, organised by the Japanese Education Group, will take place at the Baluwakhani Kapan Sports Centre in Budhanilkantha Municipality. Organisers unveiled the tournament details and official group draws at a press conference in Baneshwor on Friday, confirming a league-cum-knockout format that guarantees high-intensity action in every fixture.
Tournament coordinator Rup Singh Tamang said the runners-up will receive NPR 75,000, while the third-place squad will get NPR 50,000, along with trophies and medals. Individual awards will also go to the tournament’s Best Player and Best Goalkeeper.
The top two teams from each five-team pool will punch their tickets to the semifinals. Group-stage fixtures will run for 14 minutes, then extend to 15 minutes for the high-stakes semifinal and final clashes.
Every participating roster must include enrolled students, instructors, and executive directors, a requirement designed to build character on and off the court.
"The core idea behind having students, teachers, and directors share the pitch is instilling stronger discipline in our students," Tamang said at the press briefing. "We want this platform to deliver a clear message: Nepal produces not only hardworking talent but also disciplined young leaders."
To maintain the highest competitive standards and reinforce institutional integrity, FIFA-credentialed referee Maya Lama has been appointed to officiate the tournament matches.
