Two Nepalese technical officials set off from Kathmandu on Wednesday with a view to improving their qualifications. Yuvraj Sunuwar and Chahana Shah are attending the Seoul World Triathlon Technical Officials and Event Organisers Level Two Seminar 2026.
The event was organised by the Korea Triathlon Federation and the sessions start on the fifth of Bhadra before ending on the seventh of Bhadra. Sunuwar and Shah intend to carry out their Level Two certification via this tough training programme in Seoul.
On Wednesday the Nepal Triathlon Association held a formal farewell for the officials who were leaving. In Kathmandu the Association's President, Nilendra Raj Shrestha, presided over the event and sent both of them off with his best wishes as they got ready for their journey. A number of important people from the national sports community assembled to show their support for the delegates.
Niraj Shrestha, who is the Treasurer of the Nepal Triathlon Association, was at the event. Gyan Krishna Prajapati, president of the Bagmati Province Triathlon Association, also took part in the ceremony. Level Two Coach Sanubhai Paudel was there to give advice and show encouragement.
Anyone who has watched domestic triathlon races will realise how important it is for trained officials to ensure the event runs smoothly. When organising local races it is necessary to have certified technical personnel in order to maintain safety and enforce the rules of the sport; since the sport involves a great deal of logistical planning, the race organisers should have the highest level of training.
Sending delegates to international technical seminars is a way of strengthening Nepal's officiating foundation. Officials who have attained Level Two status have the necessary training for organising the complicated logistics of an event and also know how to effectively enforce the global competition rules. As a result, the Nepal Triathlon Association's ability to host recognised regional races is directly improved.
The whole sporting community gains when your country has a solid number of certified technical officials. Sunuwar and Shah will acquire new operational skills during their trip to South Korea and then pass on this knowledge to the local organisers, as well as assist in organising future competitions in Nepal. The experience they gain in Seoul will enable them to take on larger crowds and more difficult race conditions when they get back to their home country.
