Jhapa – Intra Pathari 11 Morang booked their place in the semi-finals of the Limbuni Thuli Memorial Cup 2081 after edging out hosts Charity Youth Club 5-4 in sudden death during a thrilling quarter-final clash at Khudunabari, Arjundhara-3.
The high-intensity encounter ended 2-2 in regulation time at the natural stadium, pushing the match into a penalty shootout. With the score tied at 4-4 in the shootout, the contest was finally decided in sudden death.
Pathari 11 goalkeeper Sameer Chhetri emerged as the hero, making two crucial saves in the penalty shootout. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 3,500.
The tournament, organized by Charity Youth Club, is dedicated to the memory of Limbuni Thuli, who resided in a Bhutanese refugee camp before passing away last year after relocating to the US for rehabilitation. Her son, Babi Subba, and his family have generously sponsored the tournament in her honour. A former football player and coach, Babi Subba emphasized that the event is his way of contributing to Nepali football while keeping his mother's memory alive among the residents of Arjundhara Khudunabari.
The action continues tomorrow (Tuesday), as CMC Damak will face Jalthal FC in the next quarter-final showdown.
According to organizing committee coordinator Surya Imbung, the tournament champions will receive a cash prize of Rs 155,555, while the runners-up will receive Rs 77,777. The organizers estimate the total cost of hosting the tournament to be Rs 1.4 million.
