Sankata and Army Dominate Women’s League Openers with Clinical Efficiency

KATHMANDU – The Shahid Smarak Women’s League kicked off at Chyasal Stadium. Two standout teams impressed on opening day. Sankata Club seized an early lead through their international players. Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) showed second-half grit to secure their victory.

Sankata’s Foreign Legion Tears Through NRT

In the league’s opening match, Sankata Club quickly established control and earned a decisive 4-0 win over New Road Team (NRT). Sankata’s forwards secured the result within the first 30 minutes. National team captain Win Theingi Tun opened the scoring in just the 5th minute. The pressure remained relentless. Lucia Leila Jose doubled the lead in the 26th minute, immediately followed by a Shukriya Miya strike in the 28th.

Despite NRT’s attempts to tighten their defence, Quinabaral Okosuwa Amankra added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute. This secured three points for Sankata.

Army Overcomes Stubborn Jhapa in Second-Half Surge

Tribhuvan Army FC eventually cruised to a 5-0 win over Jhapa FC. For the first 45 minutes, Jhapa defied the odds. They held the formidable Army side to a scoreless draw through disciplined defending.

The floodgates opened in the 57th minute. Deepa Shahi, who was later named Player of the Match, scored to break the deadlock. The Army added several more goals as Jhapa’s defence faltered. They netted a quickfire brace, scoring in the 83rd minute and again in the first minute of stoppage time.

Tulasa Bohara reinforced the Army's comprehensive victory by scoring in the 96th minute. She rounded out the 5-0 result, demonstrating her persistence in finishing the match strongly.

League Outlook

Nine teNine teams are competing this year under the organisation of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The opening day showcased both strong tactical discipline and individual skill.
