Khatun Double Inspires Church Boys Win as Thimphu City Crashes Out

Church Boys United reached the Om Sai Pathibhara Chandragadhi Women’s Gold Cup semifinals on Sunday, edging out Bhutan’s Thimphu City FC in a tightly contested five-goal match. Sharp finishing and defensive lapses helped the Nepali team secure a 3–2 victory and eliminate the visitors.

Mariyam Khatun broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, noticing the Thimphu goalkeeper was out of position and sending a long shot from outside the box into the far post. She doubled her tally just before halftime, acrobatically finishing a Barsha Oli cross which deflected in, thrilling home fans.

Church Boys dominated early, while Thimphu struggled to find its rhythm.

Unfazed, the Bhutanese team rallied after halftime. In the 44th minute, Rota Rai circled the goalkeeper to calmly score for the visitors. In the 58th minute, Priya Ghale’s cross forced Church Boys defender Manita Tamang into an own goal while attempting to clear. The own goal quieted the crowd, and the tension in the stadium grew.

With the score level at 2–2, Barsha Oli seized the moment in the 79th minute. Exploiting a defensive error, she surged through the centre, bypassed the goalkeeper, and netted the decisive goal.

Ultimately, that goal decided the match and ended Thimphu’s run in the tournament.
