Nepal Moves to Second in Group A After Dominant Volleyball Victory

KATHMANDU — Hosts Nepal revived their CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship hopes with a strong straight-sets win over Kyrgyzstan, changing the mood in Group A and putting themselves close to reaching the semifinals.

Under pressure after an opening loss, Nepal delivered a clinical win at the National Sports Council covered hall. Dominant from the start, Nepal blended aggressive spikes and strong defence to dismantle Kyrgyzstan. The hosts took the sets 25-18, 25-20, and 25-13. Central blocker Sumitra Regmi, named Player of the Match, orchestrated the net defence and scored crucial points to keep Kyrgyzstan off-balance.

This comprehensive 3-0 sweep dramatically reshapes Group A. Nepal is now second with 4 points, behind India, which has 5, while Kyrgyzstan is third with 3 points. The Maldives remain last with no points. Now, if Nepal wins against the Maldives tomorrow, they will secure a semifinal place, regardless of other group results.

Regional Giants Set the Pace

Earlier in the day, title favourites India demolished the Maldives in straight sets, cruising to a 25-9, 25-14, 25-17 victory. With their second win, India is close to securing a semifinal berth and will face Kyrgyzstan in their final group match on Monday.

Meanwhile, the tournament’s depth showed in the day's first match. In the other pool, Kazakhstan decisively beat Sri Lanka 25-9, 25-18, 25-15 to stake their claim as championship contenders.
