The stage is set for one of the most prestigious football tournaments outside the capital as the Saurya Airlines Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital Bhadrapur Jhapa Gold Cup—Gambhir Rai Memorial Edition gears up for the kickoff. The tournament organisers, who will take place at Mechi Stadium from Falgun 7 to Falgun 16, confirmed during a press conference that all preparations have been finalised.
A state-of-the-art playing field has been meticulously prepared to ensure a high-quality competition. Infrastructure upgrades allow for an estimated 20,000 spectators. Permanent concrete seating and temporary bamboo parapets have been installed, along with welcome gates, to enhance the grandeur of the event.
Elite Teams Set to Battle for Glory
The tournament will feature some of the best clubs from Nepal and beyond. Representing Nepal's top-flight, A Division clubs Church Boys United, Machhindra Football Club, Nepal Police Club, New Road Team, Armed Police Force (APF) FC, and B division club Jhapa 11 FC will compete alongside home favourites Bhadrapur Blazers.
Adding an international flair, Darjeeling Police FC (India), Transport United FC (Bhutan), and Kawaran Bazar Pragati Sangh (Bangladesh) will join the contest, making it a truly global event with 10 teams vying for the title.
High Stakes & Big Rewards
The champions of the Gold Cup will receive a grand cash prize of Rs. 1.3 million, along with a prestigious trophy and medals. The runners-up will receive Rs. 7 lakh, a trophy, and medals.
Individual brilliance will also be rewarded, with the Best Player of the Tournament receiving Rs. 105,000, while the Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, Emerging Player, and Best Coach each bag Rs. 25,000. Additionally, the Player of the Match in every game will earn Rs. 21,000.
Grand Inauguration & Ticketing Details
As confirmed by Gold Cup Chairman Dipesh Dhakal, the tournament will be inaugurated by former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister and National Assembly member Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
According to General Secretary Jeevan Kumar Shrestha, tickets for the quarter-finals have been priced at Rs. 200, while the semi-finals and final will cost Rs. 300 for bamboo seating and Rs. 500 for concrete parapet seating.
The Bhadrapur Municipality Patron and Jhapa District Sports Development Committee coordinated the event. During the press conference, key figures addressed media queries, including Bhadrapur Mayor Ganesh Pokharel, Gold Cup Chief Advisor Tikaraj Dhakal, Chairman Dipesh Dhakal, and General Secretary Jeevan Kumar Shrestha.
With meticulous preparations and an impressive lineup of teams, the Bhadrapur Jhapa Gold Cup 2024 promises to be an electrifying spectacle for football fans across the region.
