LALITPUR, NEPAL — Lalitpur Metropolitan City beat Mahakal Rural Municipality in straight sets to win the men's title, while Bethanchowk Rural Municipality beat Kathmandu Metropolitan City 3-1 for the women's crown at the Bagmati Province-Level Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
The local courts at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre saw championship action as the week-long tournament, which commenced on July 7 (Asar 23), reached its climax. Organised by the training centre with financial backing from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the event brought together 16 elite regional teams to sharpen provincial volleyball talent.
Lalitpur controlled the men's final with tactical efficiency. Facing a spirited Mahankal Rural Municipality side, the hosts used a strong transition game to set the tempo. Lalitpur took the opening set 25-20, pressed ahead with a 25-15 second-set win, and closed out the third 25-20. The 3-0 sweep confirmed their status as the province's top men's unit, while Madi Municipality finished third.

The women's gold-medal match turned into a four-set battle. Bethanchowk Rural Municipality looked set for a comfortable win after taking the opening set 25-16. Kathmandu Metropolitan City responded by capitalising on defensive lapses to take the second set 21-25 and level the match.
The third set was the turning point of the final. In a close, point-for-point battle, Bethanchowk edged Kathmandu 25-23. That set shifted the match, and Bethanchowk then controlled the fourth set, winning 25-8 to seal the 3-1 victory. Lalitpur's women's team finished third.
Lalitpur Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya Bajracharya handed over the championship trophies, medals, and cash awards during the post-match ceremony. Beyond the team prizes, individual awards were also given, with positional awards yielding NPR 5,000 for each player.
