KATHMANDU — Nepal’s national kabaddi contingent has officially embarked on a high-stakes, two-month intensive training program in Haryana, India, aiming to sharpen their skills ahead of the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The delegation was given a formal send-off at the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) headquarters in Lalitpur, where sports administrators and government representatives gathered to express their backing. Running from July 17 through September 15, 2026, the extended stint in Haryana—widely regarded as a global stronghold for elite kabaddi talent—is designed to elevate the squad’s tactical execution, physical endurance, and competitive edge on the continental stage.
Addressing the athletes during the farewell ceremony, NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha emphasised that reaching the elite level in modern athletics requires far more than casual effort. Describing sport as a science, Shrestha remarked that the athletes' current standing reflects years of relentless discipline, structured preparation, and personal sacrifice. He urged the players to maintain absolute focus and compete with pride, reminding them that sustained success rests on a broader ecosystem including coaches, administrators, family members, and key stakeholders.
NOC Secretary General Rajiv Shrestha joined the executive president in wishing the squad success, alongside Deputy Secretary Ramji Shrestha and Secretary Bhim Singh Gurung. All Nepal Kabaddi Association (ANKA) President Tulsi Thapa and ANKA Secretary General Arbin Jha were also present to offer support, accompanied by Nisan Maharjan, Personal Assistant to the Minister of Education and Sports.
The travelling contingent comprises a 12-player roster backed by a three-member technical and management group. Head coaches Bishnu Datt Bhatt and Kalyan Bhujel will spearhead tactical drills and fitness conditioning during the camp, while Team Manager Parashuram Oli oversees administration throughout the two-month journey.
