KAKARVITTA — Ashish Chapagain’s forward play powered Birtamode United to a 3–1 win over Georgian FC Kalimpong in the second fixture of the Kakarvitta Champions Cup 2083 at the Kakarvitta playground.
Chapagain set the tempo early, surging past the Kalimpong defensive block to slot home the opening goal 12 minutes after kickoff. Georgian FC, led on the pitch by captain Dewasish Rai and goalkeeper Sachin Subba, gradually found their footing amid intense pressure. Their persistence paid off in the 34th minute when Saurav Tamang breached Birtamode’s backline to level the score at 1–1, and the sides went into the break after a single minute of stoppage time.
Birtamode returned from the interval with renewed tactical urgency, dictating the tempo and restricting Georgian FC’s service upfield. The breakthrough arrived in the 58th minute as Chapagain capitalised on a defensive lapse to restore the lead. Looking to refresh the side, Birtamode introduced Niraj for Sujan in the 56th minute, followed by Yubraj replacing Bishal in the 64th minute.
Pawan Baskey put the match out of reach in the 69th minute, hammering home Birtamode’s third goal to create firm daylight between the two sides. Georgian FC manager Mario Sitling and head coach Sonam Lepcha attempted to spark a late fightback, introducing A.K. Zimba for Sared in the 78th minute. At the same time, Birtamode brought on Aron for Bikram in the 72nd minute to manage the closing stages. Despite four additional minutes in the second half, the Kalimpong squad failed to carve out clear-cut opportunities against a resolute Birtamode defence.
Organised by the Kakarvitta Youth Club, the tournament runs through August 1, showcasing elite regional talent in a week of intense competitive football.
