ISLAMABAD — Nepal's campaign at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Volleyball Championship 2026 ended in disappointment on Tuesday, as a straight-set defeat against Kazakhstan left them sixth. The 25–18, 27–25, 25–20 loss in the fifth-place classification match capped a winless run in Pakistan, highlighting the tactical and physical hurdles faced by the national side throughout the continental showcase.
Entering the fifth-place playoff at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Nepal sought redemption after a punishing single round-robin phase. Kazakhstan dictated terms early, breaking down Nepal's front-line block with crisp cross-court spikes to take the opening set 25–18. Nepal responded with heightened intensity in the second set, pushing the action into extra points through energetic defensive digs and aggressive net play, but minor lapses allowed Kazakhstan to snatch it 27–25.
With momentum firmly swung, Kazakhstan controlled the third set from the service line. Nepal battled valiantly to stay within striking distance, but Kazakhstan closed out the set 25–20 to secure the straight-set victory. After both nations failed to secure a top-four berth during the initial group stage. The single round-robin format granted semifinal tickets exclusively to the top four sides, leaving Nepal and Kazakhstan out of contention for the podium.
Nepal’s struggles were evident throughout the round-robin phase, where they suffered defeats in all five encounters. While they took Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, and Sri Lanka to five-set marathons—losing each 3–2—they were unable to convert late-set opportunities into match victories. Uncompromising 3–0 sweeps by Uzbekistan and host nation Pakistan further exposed structural vulnerabilities, leaving Nepal winless at the bottom of the table.
