KATHMANDU — The Nepal Olympic Museum will stage Nepal’s inaugural sports-related history exhibition from August 4 to 6 (Shrawan 19–21, 2083 BS) at the Nepal Art Council in Babarmahal. Marking its 33rd anniversary, the museum said at a Kathmandu press conference that the event will bring decades of competitive triumph out of the archives and into public view.
Titled 'Beyond Medals: Preserving Nepal's Sports History,' the three-day showcase offers an unprecedented window into the nation's athletic narrative. It will be opened officially by Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel.
At the core of the exhibition lies a curated collection drawn from an archive of nearly 500,000 rare and historic photographs preserved by the museum over three decades. In addition, visitors will inspect physical artefacts that define Nepali sporting milestones: iconic championship trophies, original player jerseys, international medals, and vintage equipment used in historic competitions.
"Our objective centres on safeguarding Nepal's sporting legacy, reinforcing our national identity through systematic documentation, and kindling passion in future generations," detailed NOM President Sansi Shrestha.
The event also serves as a poignant memorial. Organisers designed the exhibition to honour two pioneering figures: late senior sports journalist Kshitiz Arun Shrestha and late South Asian Games Taekwondo medalist Manju Tuladhar, whose visionary efforts laid the groundwork for sports preservation in Nepal.
Museum Treasurer Ranjan Nagarkoti confirmed that the venue expects an extensive turnout of national and international athletes, coaches, sports administrators, students, and researchers. In turn, the organisers emphasised the vital role of the press in bridging the gap between historical preservation and public awareness, urging widespread media engagement to bring Nepal's sporting heritage into homes nationwide.
