AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan: Vietnam made a powerful opening statement in the women's volleyball competition at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, sweeping Qatar 3–0 in their Preliminary Round, Pool D encounter.
The outcome was clear from the opening rally.
Vietnam overwhelmed Qatar 25–3 in the first set, taking a commanding lead early and leaving their opponents little room to settle into the contest.
Vietnam maintained its intensity in the second set, winning 25–8 to move within one set of victory.
Qatar produced a stronger response in the third, but Vietnam remained in complete control. They closed out the set 25–9 to seal the straight-sets victory.
🇻🇳 A dominant numbers game
Vietnam's dominance is reflected starkly in the final numbers.
Vietnam 75–20 Qatar across the three sets.
Vietnam scored at least 25 points in every set, while Qatar never reached double figures in any of the three sets.
Set 1: Vietnam 25–3 Qatar
Set 2: Vietnam 25–8 Qatar
Set 3: Vietnam 25–9 Qatar
The result gives Vietnam a winning start in Pool D and provides an early boost as the Asian Games women's volleyball competition progresses.
For Qatar, the opening set proved particularly difficult. Although their scoring improved from three points in the first to eight in the second and nine in the third, Vietnam's advantage remained decisive throughout.
The challenge now shifts to Qatar to regroup and respond in its upcoming Pool D matches, while Vietnam will look to carry the momentum from a near-flawless opening performance into the next stage of the preliminary round.
For Vietnam, however, the message from Aichi-Nagoya was unmistakable: they arrived ready to compete.
