On Tuesday at the Aichi Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, Nepal suffered two boxing losses at the Nishio Gymnasium, with Chandra Bahadur Thapa and Ramisha Shrestha losing their opening matches by unanimous decision. In the Men's 55kg Round of 32 match, India's Jadumani Singh Mandengbam knocked Thapa down in the third round to win the bout. Earlier that day, Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Tam dominated Shrestha in the Women's 51kg section and secured a 5-0 win.
In the evening session, Mandengbam fought quickly and took the lead immediately, winning the first round on all judges' scorecards. Although Thapa tried to mount a comeback, he won only the second round on one judge's scorecard. Thapa then lost complete control of the match in the last three minutes. In round three, Mandengbam forced a decisive knockdown, and the referee gave Thapa a formal warning just before the final bell. Three judges scored Mandengbam 30-27, while the other two scored 29-28, giving Mandengbam the 5-0 decision.
The Nepalese women's boxer achieved the same result earlier in the afternoon. Nguyen Thi Tam remained in complete control throughout against Ramisha Shrestha. In the opening minutes, she established complete dominance and, in the second round, showed clear technical superiority. She kept landing heavy punches through the last round, earning another strong score from the judges. The final scorecards showed a large margin: 30-25, 30-26, and 30-27.
The result marks a severe early setback for Nepal at the Aichi Nagoya Games. Mandengbam advances to the men's 55kg Round of 16, giving India a strong opening. Nguyen also advances in the women's 51kg event, moving into the next round after a dominant, low-damage opening performance.
