A dramatic injury-time goal from attacking midfielder Torik Zebrin handed FC Chitwan a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Butwal Lumbini FC in the Nepal Super League at Dasharath Stadium on Friday.
With the match seemingly destined for a draw, Zebrin produced a moment of brilliance, unleashing a low left-footed strike from outside the box that beat Butwal goalkeeper Deep Karki and found the back of the net.
The win propelled Chitwan to the top of the table with six points from two matches, following their 2-0 opening-day triumph over Pokhara Thunders. Meanwhile, Butwal Lumbini remains winless after three games, sitting in sixth place with just one point. They previously played a goalless draw against Jhapa FC before suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Dhangadhi.
** Match Highlights**
Butwal came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute when captain Eric Bista struck a powerful free kick from 30 yards, only to see it rebound off the crossbar. Chitwan midfielder Roshan Ranamagar had fouled Pradeep Lama in the buildup, but Butwal failed to capitalize on the second ball.
Chitwan had their own set-piece opportunity in the 54th minute, but Butwal keeper Deep Karki pulled off a stunning fingertip save to deny Nodir Mavlonov's curling free kick.
Neither could find the breakthrough despite both sides creating chances until Zebrin's late heroics sealed all three points for Chitwan, cementing their place at the table's summit.
