Nepal Suffers Third Consecutive Defeat in Women’s T20I Triangular Series

Nepal's struggles continued in the ongoing Women's Triangular International Twenty20 Series. They suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling short by 15 runs against the Netherlands at the Tri-University Cricket Ground on Sunday. With this loss, Nepal's chances of clinching the series title have significantly diminished.

Earlier in the tournament, Nepal faced a 20-run defeat against the Netherlands and a four-wicket loss to Thailand. Thailand and the Netherlands have accumulated four points each from two matches in the triple round-robin format, leaving Nepal with a slim mathematical chance of advancing.
Chasing a target of 141 runs, Nepal managed to post 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Indu Verma scored 30 runs off 32 balls, including a six, while opener Samjhana Khadka contributed 23 runs. Pooja Mahato (18) and Kavita Joshi (14) also chipped in, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double figures.

The Dutch bowlers put up a disciplined performance, with Iris Zwilling, Caroline de Lange, and Heather Segers claiming two wickets each. Eva Lynch and Isabella van der Woning also contributed with a wicket apiece.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Netherlands posted 140/7 in their 20 overs. Captain Babette de Leede led the charge with a solid 41 off 38 balls, including four boundaries and a six. Middle-order batter Heather Segers added 26 runs off 23 balls, while opener Phoebe Molkenboer and Robin Rickey each scored 21 runs.

Nepal's spin sensation Sita Rana Magar emerged as the standout bowler, claiming a five-wicket haul to restrict the Netherlands from posting a more formidable total. Manisha Upadhyaya supported with two wickets, while Kavita Joshi and captain Indu Verma took one wicket each.

Despite Rana Magar's heroics, Nepal's batting faltered, resulting in their third straight loss. The team will now look to regroup as they prepare to face Thailand in their fourth match on Tuesday.

With the Netherlands and Thailand firmly controlling the series, Nepal faces an uphill battle to keep their title hopes alive.
