NSJF Pulsar Sports Award to Take Place on January 7 in Pokhara

KATHMANDU: The 22nd NSJF Pulsar Sports Award, postponed for almost four months, will now be held on January 7 (Poush 23) in Pokhara.

The Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) shared the new date at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday. The event was originally planned for mid-September (Bhadra 29) but was postponed because the "Gen-Z" protests disrupted schedules nationwide in late Bhadra.

NSJF officials confirmed that the award ceremony will take place at Pokhara City Hall.

Yeti Airlines Joins as Key Partner

In a move to strengthen the event's logistics, NSJF President Niranjan Adhikari announced a new partnership with Yeti Airlines. The carrier has joined as the "Powered By" sponsor and will handle air transportation for the event.

“Yeti Airlines will provide flight services for the nominated players, coaches, and distinguished guests traveling to the awards,” Adhikari said.

Despite the delay, the core support for the event remains unchanged. The Golchha Group remains the primary sponsor, and Pokhara Metropolitan City is a key partner, with Mayor Dhanraj Acharya signing an agreement to help run the program.

The digital voting window for the popular ‘People’s Choice Award’ is now open again.n Khadka clarified that the voting process will continue from where it was halted in September. “The votes previously cast for the nominees remain valid. The new voting period will add to those existing tallies,” Khadka explained.

The nominees for the People’s Choice category are:

Bijay Sinjali (Wushu)

Puja Mahato (Cricket)

Himal Sunari (Volleyball)

Rekha Paudel (Football)

Evana Thapa (Table Tennis)

Voting takes place through the digital wallet partner, Khalti.

Sports Summit to Take Place Before Awards

The festivities in Kaski will start a day before the main ceremony. On January 6 (Poush 22), NSJF will host a ‘Sports Summit’ in Pokhara. Adhikari, the summit aims to create a platform for discourse on the sports economy. “To make the awards dynamic, we are holding a summit that will debate and discuss the intersection of tourism and the sports economy in Pokhara,” he stated.

Award Categories and Prizes

The 22nd NSJF PulThe 22nd NSJF Pulsar Sports Award will recognize excellence in 10 categories: Male Player of the Year, Female Player of the Year, Youth Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, People's Choice, Para Athlete Honor, Special Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Asian Sports Journalist Award, and Team of the Year. Headline categories—Male, Female, People’s Choice, Coach, and Youth—will each receive a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. Winners in the remaining categories will receive a cash prize of NRs 100,000.

Many partners, such as Surya Nepal, Kelme Nepal, the National Sports Council, the Nepal Olympic Committee, the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council, the Nepal Tourism Board, and IME Hospitality, support the event.

A central organizing committee led by President Adhikari will oversee the event.
