KATHMANDU — The Nepal Olympic Museum on Tuesday launched the country's first sports memorabilia exhibition at the Nepal Art Council in Babar Mahal. Titled "Beyond the Medals: Preserving Nepal's Sports History," the three-day showcase features historic artefacts, national and international medals, and iconic moments from decades of Himalayan sports excellence.
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel inaugurated the exhibition and stressed the need to safeguard the country's sporting legacy. Pokharel pledged full government support for modernising and organising the archive, saying preserving these records helps inspire future athletes.
The exhibition carries strong sentimental and archival value for the domestic sports community. Established in 1994 by the late Kshitij Arun Shrestha, the institution is Nepal’s sole sports museum and the first Olympic museum in South Asia.
Reflecting on the milestone, Nepal Olympic Museum President Sonsy Shrestha expressed pride in continuing the vision of her late father and late mother, Manju Tuladhar. She reaffirmed her team's commitment to expanding the museum's reach, standardising its operations, and safeguarding what she called a national treasure.
Running through the week, the showcase offers visitors a journey through Nepal’s international athletic appearances, displaying podium medals, historic gear, and records that trace the nation's path across global sports arenas.
