Pokhara – Church Boys United Club has marched into the semi-finals of the prestigious Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup with a gritty 1-0 victory over defending champions Tribhuvan Army Football Club in a tense quarter-final clash at Pokhara Rangashala on Monday.
Raj Bhusal emerged as the match-winner, heading home a pinpoint corner from Naveen Lama in the 89th minute to seal a dramatic late triumph for Church Boys.
Before their quarter-final success, Church Boys overcame New Road Team (NRT) in a thrilling sudden death penalty shootout, edging their opponents 6-5. Tribhuvan Army Football Club, meanwhile, had received a direct berth in the quarter-finals but failed to capitalize on the advantage.
Church Boys United will now face Nepal Police Club in a high-stakes semi-final encounter. Police secured their spot in the last four with a convincing 2-0 victory over Brigade Boys Club UK.
