Kathmandu launched the countdown for Nepal's ultimate athletic celebration as the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) officially rolled out the Pulsar Sports Award 2082. Grounded in a nearly two-decade partnership with title sponsor Golchha Group, the flagship ceremony returns with upgraded financial incentives to orchestrate the nation's highest sporting honours.
The annual extravaganza honours outstanding national athletes, tacticians, and sports administrators for their standout achievements during the 2082 Nepali calendar year. Expanding its footprint after 19 consecutive years of corporate backing from Golchha Group, this year's edition raises the competitive stakes across nine distinct categories.
Victors in five marquee classifications—Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Youth Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the fan-driven People’s Choice Award—will each ride away on a brand-new Pulsar motorcycle. Meanwhile, champions across the remaining four divisions, including Para-Athlete Recognition, Special Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Asian Sports Journalist Award, will pocket an upgraded cash purse of NPR 100,000 each.
To drive operational execution, NSJF established a Main Organising Committee under the direct leadership of NSJF President Niranjan Adhikari. Multiple specialised sub-committees were simultaneously formed to manage logistics, nominations, media, and staging across the country.
The announcement re-anchors the prestige established during the previous edition, where national cricket sensation Dipendra Singh Airee claimed the Men's Athlete of the Year trophy following his explosive international performances. Karate star Arika Gurung secured the Women's Athlete of the Year title, while rising cricket starlet Puja Mahato captured the Youth Athlete of the Year crown. Taekwondo strategist Kabiraj Negi received Coach of the Year, and volleyball fan favourite Himal Sunari clinched the People's Choice Award after dominating public voting.
Honours in the special categories last year recognised pioneer sports icons and international journalists. Taekwondo figure Tulasi Kumar Gurung earned the Special Award, adaptive sports trailblazer Prabha Angdembe picked up the Para-Athlete Award, and Khadga Rana Magar accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bangladeshi reporter Rana Hasan received the Asian Sports Journalist Award.
With media backing and institutional alignment set, NSJF leadership expressed full confidence that the 2082 edition will set a new benchmark for celebrating Nepalese sporting brilliance.
