KATHMANDU — The Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) has unveiled a 20-event annual calendar for the fiscal year 2083/84, backed by an estimated NPR 20 crore budget, in a bid to elevate the nation’s official sport. The roadmap puts international hosting duties, franchise commercialisation, and grassroots pathways at the heart of Nepal’s volleyball strategy.
Kathmandu will host the CAVA Women’s Champions League from November 1 to 7, with domestic side Nepal Police Club set to represent the nation and chase an Asian Club Championship spot for 2027. Nepal has also secured rights to organise the world ranking-recognised CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship and the CAVA Challenge Cup Men.
"We successfully hosted the women’s international events, and CAVA has now agreed to award us the men’s world-ranking tournament for next year," confirmed NVA President Jitendra Bahadur Chand.
The national women’s squad will compete at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for September-October. Both men's and women's teams will also head to Bhutan in September for the CAVA Beach Volleyball Tour. NVA plans to launch a Three-Nations Cup featuring regional rivals Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives to maintain match fitness.
Commercial volleyball also moves up the agenda with two franchise tournaments. The Kedia Group-backed Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) for men kicks off in Bhadra, fresh off player auctions. On the women's side, Infinity Dreams will stage the third edition of the Everest Women’s Volleyball League (EWVL) in late Ashwin, building on previous successes in Kathmandu and Pokhara. According to Chand, corporate franchises and sponsorship deals will fund nearly NPR 7–8 crore of the overall operational target.
The NVA is also prioritising foundational development. The calendar sets aside slots for U-19 national championships, an Inter-School U-18 tournament, and a strategic U-15 event designed as a direct pipeline for the CAVA U-16 Championship squad. Youth coach Arjun Ghimire praised the structured focus on age-group competitions, calling it vital for sustaining talent pipelines outside the capital.
Domestically, the calendar keeps traditional mainstays in focus: the 10th NVA Volleyball Championship, 11th Prime Minister’s Cup NVA League, and the national beach volleyball circuit. The 35th Men’s and 25th Women’s National Championships will head to Surkhet in Karnali Province, aligning with the upcoming 10th National Games.
NVA Vice President Yubaraj Shrestha emphasised that executing this grand blueprint requires tight collaboration between the government and private investors, alongside plans to establish a Social Security Fund to safeguard players' financial futures.
