KATHMANDU — The Nepal Ski Association (NSA) has approved a strategic financial plan, setting a budget of NPR 3.48 million (3,480,800) for the 2083–84 fiscal year at its seventh Annual General Meeting in Kathmandu.
NSA President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, who also leads the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), chaired the closed session, which approved operational plans to expand snow sports infrastructure nationwide. The new budget will support domestic championships, international tournament participation, athlete training, and preparations for upcoming Winter Olympic Games.
In addition to approving the budget, delegates endorsed the annual progress report from General Secretary Bijay Shrestha and the financial auditor’s statement from Treasurer Jitendra Shrestha. NSA Vice President Rama Bhattarai presented the upcoming operational strategy, and the general assembly appointed B.R. Parajuli & Associates as auditor for the next fiscal year.
Earlier, Vice President Bhattarai chaired the opening ceremony at the Vajra Hotel in Swayambhu, with President Shrestha as chief guest. In his remarks, Shrestha expressed concern about ongoing instability in Nepal’s sports sector, citing political hesitation and institutional interference as barriers to athlete development. He stressed the importance of constitutional governance within sports federations to reduce administrative challenges.
Shrestha noted that despite Nepal’s renowned mountain ranges, awareness of winter sports remains low. He argued that strategic investment could establish Nepal as a leading destination for ski tourism. General Secretary Bijay Shrestha agreed, acknowledging logistical challenges in hosting alpine events but reaffirming the association’s commitment to growing the sport.
A key highlight of the opening ceremony was the launch of Snowline, the NSA's first sports magazine. Shrestha and visiting sports dignitaries, including Nepal Rugby Association President Deepak Devkota, Nepal Handball Association President Pitamber Timilsina, NOC Vice President Chaturanand Rajvaidya, NOC General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha, and National Sports Council representative Dhan Shahi, unveiled the debut issue. The general assembly allowed members to attend both physically and virtually, enabling broader participation across regional sporting branches.
