The Champions League Round of 16 kicked off with plenty of action. There were high-scoring games in Munich and Madrid, late drama in Newcastle, and a tough night for Liverpool’s defence in Istanbul.
Bayern Munich 6-1 Atalanta: The Olise Show
Continuing the night's high-scoring action, Bayern Munich cruised into the quarter-finals after a big win over Atalanta. Michael Olise stood out, scoring twice and providing a stylish assist.
Bayern went up early: Stanišić scored from a short corner, then Olise added a second and assisted Gnabry for the third.
After halftime, Jackson made it 4-0, Olise scored again, and Musiala added a sixth before Pašalić netted Atalanta’s late consolation.
Atletico Madrid 5-2 Tottenham: Goalkeeping Horror Show
Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes took a big blow in Madrid after a rough start from young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. He was substituted after only 17 minutes because of several costly mistakes.
6th Min: Kinsky slipped while attempting to clear, allowing Julián Alvarez to set up Marcos Llorente for the opener.
14th Min: Antoine Griezmann found space at the edge of the area and finished into the corner for Atletico’s second goal.
15th Min: Another Kinsky blunder allowed Alvarez to make it 3-0.
Guglielmo Vicario came on, but the match was already slipping away. Robin Le Normand scored a fourth for Atletico, then Pedro Porro got one back for Spurs. Alvarez scored again, and though Dominic Solanke netted late for Tottenham, they now face a tough challenge in the second leg.

Newcastle United 1-1 Barcelona: Yamal the Saviour
At St. James' Park, Newcastle was just seconds from a famous win before Lamine Yamal scored. The home crowd was electric as Harvey Barnes put Newcastle ahead in the 86th minute, finishing off a cross from Jacob Murphy.
Newcastle was close to their first win over Barcelona since 1997, but things changed in injury time. Malick Thiaw fouled Dani Olmo, and Yamal calmly scored the penalty in the 96th minute. The teams head to Camp Nou with the score tied.
Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool: Set-Piece Sorrows
Liverpool’s corner-kick defence faltered again as Lemina’s header gave Galatasaray an early win in Istanbul.
This was the tenth goal Liverpool has let in from a corner this season. They thought they had equalised in the 70th minute after a Dominik Szoboszlai corner, but VAR ruled out the goal for an Ibrahima Konaté handball. Now, Arne Slot’s team will need to come from behind at Anfield on March 18.
