NOC Nepal Flags Off Official ‘Asian Games Fun Run’ in valley to Celebrate Nagoya 2026

To build momentum for the 20th Asian Games, the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) will host the ‘Asian Games Fun Run’ this Saturday in the capital. The run will start at 7:30 AM from NOC headquarters in Satdobato, cover a 3-kilometre route through Gwarko, Okubahal, and Chakrabahi, and finish at Kartik Dabali in Patan Durbar Square. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha said the event aims to promote the “Road to Aichi-Nagoya 2026” and foster unity and sportsmanship.

The initiative is part of a continent-wide promotional campaign sanctioned by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) ahead of the Asiad, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. This year’s Games promise to be more inclusive and diverse than ever, featuring 461 events across 43 sports and the introduction of new disciplines such as Padel and Teqball. For its part, the NOC has officially registered Nepal to compete in 32 sports, signalling a robust commitment to the regional competition despite the 53 venues and the high level of difficulty expected at the Games. The Fun Run is expected to be a high-profile gathering, with an estimated 1,000 participants including national athletes, coaches, Olympians, and members of the diplomatic and security communities. Adding international weight to the event, top officials from the OCA and the Aichi-Nagoya Organising Committee—including Deputy Director Vinod Kumar Tiwari and PR Director Fumihito Kanaizuka—will be in attendance. Led by a five-member organising committee under NOC Secretary Ram Krishna Shrestha, the event serves as both a community celebration and a formal “send-off” of support for the Nepali delegation as they prepare for Asia’s premier multi-sport event.
